With RESPETTO TM x Cassina, we showed it’s possible: mixed upholstery offcuts from Cassina’s own production lines, transformed into RESPETTO MIX™, a high-performance neo-polymer that passed the mechanical tests required by the furniture industry, moulded with the very same industrial tooling as the original Caprice chair.

Across the furniture industry, managing upholstery and textile offcuts is becoming a pressing issue: rising volumes, stricter regulations and growing esg expectations. For sofa and seating manufacturers, this is more than a waste problem, it is an untapped resource waiting to be transformed.

Together with cassina and a university research team, we transformed mixed textile waste from cassina’s own production into a new neo-polymer: respetto mix. 

The shell of the caprice chair was molded using the very same industrial molds as the standard version, proving that circular materials can meet existing design and production standards.

The process was validated using the real unpredicability of industrial textile waste, not a lab-perfect feedstock. The resulting material successfully passed the mechanical and performance tests needed for furniture applications, demonstrating that circularity does not have to mean compromise.
